Who We Serve

Healing Home by United for Better supports adults ages 18 and older who often fall through the cracks of traditional care systems. Our residents and day clients come from intergenerational families in Milwaukee’s 53206 community where grandparents, parents, and adult children often live together due to limited housing options and poverty.

Many of the individuals we serve have complex mental health needs, developmental delays, or late-diagnosed conditions that make independent living unsafe, yet institutional settings are too restrictive or retraumatizing.

We provide a family-style home environment for:

• Adults with developmental disabilities such as autism, whose aging parents can no longer provide care but still want a warm, family-centered setting where they can visit and stay involved.

• Adults with mental health challenges who need medication management, structure, and stabilization in a supportive, non-institutional setting.

• Individuals with trauma or crisis histories who benefit from our Calm & Visualization Room — a therapeutic space for de-escalation, sensory grounding, and quiet observation.

• Aged-out foster youth who need time, family connection, and mentorship before fully reintegrating into the community — some even return to work or volunteer at Healing Home.

• Formerly incarcerated or misidentified homeless adults who live with untreated or late-diagnosed mental illness and need a chance to rebuild stability and belonging.

• Adults experiencing poverty or isolation who thrive best in a smaller home where they are truly seen, supported, and valued.

Healing Home fills the gaps that have been missing in traditional systems. We exist for those who are too independent for institutions but too vulnerable to live alone, providing dignity, structure, and healing within the kind of family environment our community has always known.
